Payment SuccessStory
Battery at ~30%, Google Maps couldn't find a compatible charger nearby. He searched three different apps, got contradictory info, and we ended up stranded for 45 minutes. That frustration became the starting point for GridGo.
Research
EV drivers face three cascading failures when trying to charge away from home — locating chargers, trusting the information they find, and confirming compatibility before they arrive.
Competitive Analysis
I explored other apps after my Google Maps dead-end to understand the EV charging landscape better. PlugShare, ABRP, ChargePoint, and Statiq are the top competitors — each solving a slice of the problem, none solving all of it.
Synthesis
After mapping the competitive landscape and user pain points, three core problem areas emerged that no existing product fully addressed.
Strategy
Instead of building "just another charger map", I wanted GridGo to feel like a travel companion and an EV ownership ecosystem — tracking the full journey in real time, and going beyond charging to payments, insights, maintenance, and support.
Design System
A dark, minimal, tech-first system built for modern dashboard experiences. Dark-first for low-ambient driving environments, functional green to guide the user journey, and minimal visual noise to reduce cognitive load while charging.
Core Experience Flows
GridGo was designed around five interconnected experiences — each solving a distinct moment in the EV ownership journey, from finding a charger to managing your vehicle.
01 — Explore
The Explore experience focuses on charger discovery, compatibility confidence, and quick decision making. Users can instantly understand charger type, availability, compatibility, and charging speed.
02 — Trip Planner
Trip Planner helps users confidently plan long-distance EV travel. Instead of only showing routes, GridGo predicts charging stops, battery confidence, charging duration, and estimated arrival battery.
03 — Charging Flow
The charging experience was designed to reduce friction and simplify charging initiation. The flow includes charger identification, QR scanning, connection verification, live charging status, and payment confirmation.
04 — Garage
Garage centralizes EV ownership management into one space. Users can monitor vehicle health, check battery status, manage service timelines, view diagnostics, and connect additional vehicles.
05 — Shop
The shop extends GridGo into a larger EV ecosystem. Users can discover chargers, accessories, maintenance essentials, and EV lifestyle products — all in one place.
Reflection
Designing GridGo reinforced how important emotional UX is within utility products. The problem wasn't only "finding chargers." It was reducing uncertainty during moments where users already feel stressed.

Final Thoughts
GridGo explores what a modern EV charging ecosystem could feel like if it was designed around confidence, simplicity, ecosystem thinking, and user reassurance.
